Housed in an apartment in a 19th-century row house on Madison Avenue (built in 1890 by James E. Ware, who built elsewhere in the city for the "Association for Improving the Condition of the Poor"), in the Carnegie Hill section of the Upper East Side, an area once inhabited by the Weckquaesgeeks and now luxury stores and apartment buildings, private schools, and museums. The works in this exhibition take up the contradictions of domesticity, commodity, luxury, art, culture, and history – that is, life itself – perched between melancholy and wit, amidst utilitarian (dis)comfort.Artists: Colby Bird, Carol Bove, Skyler Brickley, Jackie Gendel, David Gilbert, Ethan Greenbaum, Heide Hinrichs, Wayne Koestenbaum, Jason Matthew Lee, Matt Magee, Kaveri Nair, Carlos Reyes, Amelia Saul, Ben Schumacher, Jo-ey Tang, Cody Trepte Benjamin Valenza, Elaine Cameron-Weir, Roger White, B.
